Get to know Clovis North football player, rising senior Mario Gonzalez
FRESNO, Calif. — Rising senior at Clovis North, Mario Gonzalez, is looking forward to joining his teammates this fall for a final season with the Broncos. This team, he believes, is like a “big family”, playing for one another, and leaving everything out on the field so that the teammates beside him can do the same thing.
Described as “coachable” by those closest to him, Gonzalez prioritizes football in his life, with morning workouts and after school practice steadfast components of his daily routine. In his own words that he lives by, he never gives up on himself. Through wins and losses, ups and downs, tough workouts and filling shoes, Mario believes that if he continues to work hard, he will continue to succeed-not only will he succeed, but those around him on the field will succeed, too: a true team player.
This little motto of his is not the only thing he accredits learning from sports. Sports teach responsibility, he says, and shows him that his determination will shine through when he needs it. In a more general sense, Gonzalez says that sports teach and breed community. It might be as simple as a form of entertainment to some, to others an intense showing of strength (both mental and physical), but at the end of the day, sitting down and rooting for the same team creates shared interests, shared goals and hopes, making a true community.
Starting as a junior last season, Mario joined one of the strongest offensive lines in the league, composed primarily of seniors. This year, he hopes to do the same, stepping up to be a leader like those before him. Though the season may not be perfect, the goal is to overcome mistakes, to give his best effort, and above all, never give up on himself, and never give up on his teammates.
