Georgetown HS grad Mason Crosby prepares for 16th season in NFL
GEORGETOWN, Texas – Mason Crosby is entering his 16th season in the NFL, all with the Green Bay Packers. He’s had an illustrious career, stacking accolades including Super Bowl champion and the Packers’ all-time leading scorer. Still, he remembers where it all started.
A graduate of Georgetown High School in 2003, Crosby played both football and soccer during his youth career. While he earned all-district honors in soccer in his sophomore and junior years, it didn’t compare to what he could do on the gridiron.
Crosby made an impact all over the field. Along with placekicking duties, he acted as the team’s punter and free safety, earning all-district honors at all three positions his senior year. He was further recognized for his exceptional kicking abilities, receiving honors as an All-Central Texas kicker, a member of the All-Midlands team, and ranked third in the country as a placekicker coming out of high school.
After completing four years at Colorado, Crosby was selected in the sixth round of the NFL draft by his current team, the Green Bay Packers. He’s achieved the highest levels of success over his 15 seasons but he still returns to Texas to leave his mark on the community.
The Locker is a non-profit organization that was established in 2008 by Mason’s mother, Karen, to provide community service while allowing local youth to participate in giving back. Mason has been involved with the organization throughout his career. Late in the 2018 season, he asked Georgetown High School’s art class to design his cleats for the upcoming game to support the NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats campaign. He often returns in the summer to participate in the organization’s events and host youth football camps.
Crosby’s ties to his hometown extend further. Former Georgetown governor George Garver submitted an official proclamation that April 22, 2011, be considered Mason Crosby Day to honor his continued generosity in the community as well as his accomplishments on the field. In the offseason of 2019, he was named an honorary deputy in Williamson County, Texas.
The Green Bay Packers have hopes of a Super Bowl this season and Crosby is expected to be an important piece of the puzzle as he has been his whole career. He is currently riding a 241-consecutive-game streak that surpasses any other active streak by a full six seasons and, despite being on the PUP list, is expected to be ready for the season opener in Minnesota on Sept. 11th.
Mason Crosby’s football accolades will be remembered by the college and professional communities for years to come. These accomplishments will be secondary to many Georgetown-area residents that he has impacted during his career.
