Get to know Sting soccer player, Lucas area resident Camryn Newhouse

LUCAS, Texas — Camryn Newhouse is an up-and-coming soccer star who enjoys playing the sport and learning all its ins and outs. She is in her 8th year of soccer and is currently a member of the Sting, while previously playing on FC Premier, Solar, and the Renegades teams.

She told us her biggest challenge is “Time management – balancing school/homework, practices, and time with friends. I have a planner to help me keep track of everything and I have learned to get the important stuff done first.”

Her pregame ritual includes giving her mom a fist bump and her dad a kiss when she gets out of the car prior to warm-up drills.

While Camryn works hard and sets goals, she knows that sometimes things happen to derail her best efforts during games, like turning over the ball. When that happens, she refocuses her efforts and through teamwork and communication, she wins the ball back.

Camryn’s goals include playing soccer in college. “I would like to be the best player I can be and represent all African-American girls who have thought about playing soccer,” said Camryn.

She wears jersey #44 in honor of her late Papa (grandfather), Dallas Cowboys legend #44 Robert Newhouse.

In addition to her excellent play on the field, Camryn has received awards for making the A/B Honor Roll, Teacher Award for Character, and Teacher Award for A Helping Hand and Being A Good Friend.

When she is not playing soccer and attending to her studies, Camryn enjoys art, crafting, and building things.
