Q&A with Normal Community HS football player Chase Wiese
NORMAL, Ill. — In grade school and junior high, Chase Wiese would attend Normal Community High School football games and dream about being the quarterback for the Ironmen someday.
That dream has come true for the senior as he begins the season as the starting quarterback for NCHS.
“It means everything to me to be the quarterback for the Ironmen,” Wiese said. “It feels like it is coming full circle for me now and it is just really exciting.”
Get to know Wiese in this interview:
What do you like to do outside of your sport?
Chase Wiese: Outside of the sport, I like to spend time with friends and family. I also enjoy watching movies and relaxing in the time I have off.
When you close your eyes and dream about your future, what does that look like?
Wiese: When I close my eyes and dream about my future, I just get excited about living in the moment with the people I am with every day. Trying to cherish the times I have with people now is very important to me.
Ask someone in your family to pick one word to describe you.
Wiese: I asked my mom to pick a word for me to describe me and she said loyal. She chose loyal because I am very loyal to the people around me and how I treat them every day.
What is your plan after high school?
Wiese: After high school I plan on playing either football, baseball or both in college. I plan to do this because these are two things that are very important to me and something that has been a pinnacle to my everyday life.
As an athlete, what is a rule you live by?
Wiese: A rule I live by is how can I get better every day. It is not as much of a rule as it is something that reminds me that I need to keep progressing in life. Not just living in the past.
What life lesson has football taught you?
Wiese: Football has taught me that when you get with a group of people, and you all really care about something, it can be really special.
How would you describe your personality?
Wiese: I would describe my personality as loose and calm.
Where can we find you on social media?
Wiese: You can find me on Instagram @chase_wiese or on twitter @wiese_chase
What is your favorite snack food?
Wiese: My favorite go-to snack food would have to be Skittles.
What song on your playlist has been played the most?
Wiese: A song on my playlist that I have been listening to a ton is “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson. Anything by him is solid.
What is your favorite memory from high school so far? On and off the football field.
Wiese: Favorite Memory on the football field I believe is still to come. I have shared many memories in the past with teammates though I believe the best one is still to come. Off the field would have to be hanging out with friends and just sharing good times.
What is your pregame ritual?
Wiese: A pregame ritual I always have would be taking a second to pray to God and clear my mind for the game.
What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?
Wiese: The best advice I had received from a coach would be to not doubt yourself. Trust what you have done, and everything will fall into place.
