Dunwoody native Harris Barton continues to excel in Bay Area

DUNWOODY, Ga. (BVM) – Many grow up and hope they can accomplish as much as 58-year-old Harris Barton.

Barton lives on the west coast and runs his own asset management company. Barton is well known in the Bay area, but not necessarily because of his current role.

Outside of his business ventures, Barton played 10 seasons for the San Francisco 49ers, twice being named First-team All-Pro and winning three Super Bowls.

But before he became a well-known California native, Barton grew up in Atlanta, more specifically the Dunwoody area.

Barton attended Dunwoody High School where he emerged as an elite recruit. In his senior season, he won the DeKalb County MVP, an impressive feat for an offensive lineman.

By the end of his high school career, he had offers from schools all over the country. Barton ultimately chose the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He lived up to the hype during his college career, starting as an interior lineman, later kicking out to left tackle. As a senior, Barton took home the ACC’s Outstanding Offensive Lineman award.

He finished his college days by graduating with a bachelor’s degree in finance.

His No. 67 jersey is not retired by the Tar Heels, however, it is displayed in the east end zone at Kenan Memorial Stadium under the video board.

Barton was a first-round selection in the 1987 NFL Draft by the 49ers and made an instant impact. He finished second in the Rookie of the Year voting that season.

He suited up for 138 games throughout his NFL career, all with San Francisco, ultimately becoming one of the most reliable right tackles during his era.

Outside of his primary gig running H. Barton Asset Management, he also helps out with a variety of non-profit organizations in the area.

Despite Barton remaining out west, he is a great representation of what the Dunwoody community is all about.
