Get to know Cedar Ridge HS sprinter, Round Rock area resident Finley Gordan
ROUND ROCK, Texas — Finley is the daughter of Brian and Amanda Gordon. The daughter of athletic parents, she had all the necessary genes to perform well in sports. Growing up she played soccer and had every intent on staying at it through to college. But then she fell in love with track. That turned out to be a good choice, because she is fast!
Her PR times are 12:38 in the 100, and 26:16 in the 200. She also runs with the 4×100 team for her school. She and her teammates went to the state championships last year. It was the first time a girls’ team from Cedar Ridge participated in the state finals. Finley also just competed in the Junior Olympics last month in North Carolina.
When asked about her transition from soccer to track, Finley talks about the opportunity to push herself, “I am the kind of person who likes to push the limits. There is a real adrenaline rush with running and l just want to keep growing and learning.” And she is in good hands, for our feature family (Johnny and Monica Washington), help coach the club team with whom she trains.
Although Finley is fairly new to track and field, she is already prepping herself for a run at college athletics, and though she is still open to various options, she does have an affinity for a couple Texas schools, A&M and UT in particular. Amanda and Brian could not be prouder of their daughter’s accomplishments.
Amanda describes it this way, “There is nothing like seeing your own kids succeed! I know it’s fun and exciting for her. But, as her parents, its equally exciting for us. We love seeing our daughter excel!” If she stays on the track she’s on, it appears that all of Round Rock will enjoy watching her excel!
