Top 10 Michigan QBs for 2022 HS football season

DETROIT (BVM) — States such as California, Texas, Florida and Georgia get the majority of the hype when it comes to high school football.

But the prep quarterback crop in the state of Michigan might be the best in the country.

Here are the top gunslingers in the Great Lake State:

10. Mac Vandenhout, Sr., Rockford

Vandenhout has had a great start to his senior season with 862 passing yards and 13 passing touchdowns through three games. He’s near the top of the state leaderboards in both of those categories, but his most impressive feat might be his one interception on 82 passing attempts so far in 2022.

9. Brayden Ledin, Sr., St. Mary’s Prep

While St. Mary’s Prep’s baseball program received a lot of national attention last year with a perfect 44-0 record, maybe the football team will be next, led by their senior QB. Ledin has already eclipsed the 900 passing yard mark. The Eaglets are 1-3 thus far, but there is still time to get back on track.

8. Sam Rosales, Sr., Alma

Rosales has been the most prolific QB up to this point in Michigan in 2022. Through 4 games, the senior has racked up a state-leading 965 passing yards. Similarly to St. Mary’s Prep, Alma sits at 1-3. But with a premier quarterback in the state, the Panthers have the potential to turn it around.

7. Drew Viotto, Sr., Walled Lake Western

After the 6-foot-4, 215-pound quarterback had a strong junior campaign, Viotto committed to the Minnesota Golden Gophers in May 2022. He was just shy of 2,000 passing yards with 22 touchdowns, leading Walled Lake Western to a 7-4 record. The Warriors are off to a 4-0 start in 2022.

6. Brady Drogosh, Sr., De La Salle

Drogosh put himself on the map with a strong 2021 season. The Cincinnati recruit accumulated 3,248 total yards with 39 touchdowns, breaking nearly every school record. He led De La Salle to a perfect season and a state championship.

5. Isaiah Marshall, Jr., Southfield

Southfield’s offense looks as dangerous as any prep team in the state thanks to their junior signal-caller. Through 3 games, the Warriors already have totaled 149 points. Marshall is dynamic with both his arm and his legs, making him one of the most coveted at his position in Michigan.

4. Kalieb Osborne, Jr., Waterford Mott

Waterford Mott is off to a 3-1 start with the help of their 4-star quarterback. Osborne is ranked as the No. 23 player at his position according to 247 Sports. He currently only holds offers from Central Michigan and Toledo, but there are likely many more coming in his future.

3. CJ Carr, Jr., Saline

Carr is the first name from the big three in the state of Michigan. The grandson of Lloyd Carr, a legendary coach at the University of Michigan, the prep quarterback committed to the University of Notre Dame in June 2022. After a strong junior season, Carr ranks as the No. 3 quarterback in the country for the 2024 class.

2. Dante Moore, Sr., Martin Luther King

Moore likely holds the most national recognition in Michigan and deservedly so. The Oregon pledge is the No. 2 player in the country only behind Arch Manning. The Detroit native led the Crusaders to a state championship in 2021 and has them off to a 2-1 start in 2022.

1. Bryce Underwood, So., Belleville

Underwood put up terrific numbers last year as a freshman. He threw for 2,888 yards along with 39 touchdowns. He is the No. 1 quarterback in the country for the 2025 class already with the majority of his prep career to go. Underwood will likely be able to choose from any school in the country before he looks to become a household name at the collegiate level.
