Kentavius Street: J.H. Rose alum begins newest NFL chapter

GREENVILLE, N.C. (BVM) – After four years with the San Francisco 49ers, Kentavius Street is kicking off the next chapter in his NFL playing career with the New Orleans Saints. In his first season in New Orleans, Street is hoping to become a difference maker for the team’s top-rated defense after signing a one-year contract this offseason.

Street spent the last four seasons with the 49ers following his selection in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Although he only made four starts for the team over those three playing seasons, Street was able to put a solid campaign together in 2021 with three sacks, six tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. With positive momentum going into his free agency, Street netted himself a new opportunity where he now looks to become a key contributor.

Street’s steady rise to becoming a rotational NFL lineman started with his work back home. The Greenville native starred at J.H. Rose High School, helping the Rampants to a 12-3 campaign his senior season. Along with the team’s stellar play, Street recorded four sacks, 16 tackles for loss and 92 total tackles as J.H. Rose collected three straight playoff wins before being bounced later on in the 4A tournament.

With offers from a collection of Power 5 programs, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl selectee decided to stay in state with his college decision. As one of the topranked defensive lineman in his class, Street headlined what would become an impressive NC State recruiting cycle.

In his four seasons with the Wolfpack, Street appeared in 46 games teaming up on the defensive line with eventual top-5 NFL draft pick Bradley Chubb. In his final two seasons, Street combined for 15.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks. A Sun Bowl victory in 2017 had the 6-foot-2, 287-pound lineman entering the NFL stage with high expectations. Unfortunately for the Greenville native, he tore his ACL during NC State’s Pro Day. The injury would drop him farther down the board before being selected with the 128th pick.

Entering the professional level with experience playing alongside talented defensive line play, Street debuted with a similar set of circumstances. During his first year back on an NFL field, Street played beside a star-heavy unit featuring the likes of Nick Bosa, DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead and Dee Ford.

Street’s experience playing with the 49ers’ group has set him down a similar path with the Saints. A new opportunity might just unlock the former J.H. Rose tone-setter.
