Former Loveland QB Collin Klein debuting as Kansas State OC
LOVELAND, Colo. (BVM) – Collin Klein graduated from Loveland High School in 2008 as the No. 52–ranked QB in the country by ESPN. Few knew of Klein’s name back then, but today, he’s someone both Loveland natives and Kansas State football fans will never forget.
The Loveland product is currently in his fourth season as the Kansas State quarterback coach. In addition, he’s making his debut as the full-time offensive coordinator for the Wildcats.
Klein, of course, has long been a part of the K-State program. After playing as the star pro-style quarterback at Loveland, Klein played wide receiver at Kansas State in 2009 before he became the starting QB in 2011. He went on to become a third place finalist for the 2012 Heisman Trophy as a senior and he was the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award winner. He also left K-State with well over a dozen statistical school records and his 56 total career rushing touchdowns is still ranked in the top 20 in FBS history.
Klein went undrafted in the NFL, but the years away from the pros allowed him to focus on coaching. He joined the K-State staff in 2014 and it was a perfect match between the former star QB and his college alma mater.
So far this season – in Klein’s first season balancing both the quarterback coach and full-time offensive coordinator position – he’s helped the Wildcats to a 3-1 overall record. They had a big win in their first matchup in the Big 12 against the Oklahoma Sooners and they look to go on a winning streak in the conference when they take on Texas Tech on Saturday.
