Western Wayne football’s Randy Wolff becomes winningest coach

LAKE ARIEL, Pa. (BVM) – Western Wayne High School’s Randy Wolff is now the winningest football coach in school history – beating out the previous record set back in 1982.

On Friday, the Western Wayne Wildcats knocked off the Carbondale Area Chargers (38-7) to give Wolff his 41st career win. Watch the celebratory first moment below of the team jumping for joy and attempting to dumb Gatorade onto their history-making coach.

Wayne, who is in his seventh season with the team, was hired to help the struggling Wildcats in 2016 and has been trying to rebuild the program since. To put it in perspective, from 2000-07, the Wildcats had a total of eight wins and 73 losses under five different head coaches. The coaches from 2008 up until Wolff’s welcome in 2016 all have losing records.

There have been 11 different coaches since the team’s inaugural season in 1973 and only two coaches have a winning record. They include Wolff as well as the former reigning winningest football coach Mike Magnot (1976-82).

Magnot’s coaching record over his seven seasons at Western Wayne was 40-32-2. Wolff is currently 41-27 which also gives him the program’s best career winning percentage.

Wolff looks to tally on win No. 42 to improve the Wildcats’ 4-1 overall record so far this season when they host their homecoming game this Friday night.

It’s been looking bright overall for fall sports this season at Western Wayne. Coincidentally, head girls volleyball coach Darren Thorpe also hit a coaching milestone last Tuesday when he tallied up his 200th career win.
