Q&A with Greenall HS volleyball player, Balgonie area resident Mila Marquart
BALGONIE, Saskatchewan — Mila Marquart attends grade 11 at Greenall High School. Mila plays volleyball for the powerhouse Greenall Girls Volleyball Team as well as club volleyball for QCVC. She also plays ringette and softball.
We sat down with Mila for a Q & A.
What are your personal goals within your sport?
Mila Marquart: I will compete the next two years in high schools and club volleyball. I would like to be able to continue playing volleyball in the future and hopefully receive a scholarship or at least be able to play at the post-secondary level and finish my education while playing volleyball.
What is your biggest challenge in your sport? What do you do meet this challenge?
Marquart: My biggest challenge is trying not to get in my own head when things don’t go well and bring my confidence down. When this happens, I remind myself of my job on the court and focus on that. I take it one play at a time and remind myself that I know what I’m doing.
What is the best advice you were ever given?
Marquart: Get 1% better every practice every game and every time I step onto the court. It gives me motivation to work as hard as I can all the time so I can continue to improve.
What do you love about your sport?
Marquart: I love being on a team and having a family within the team. Then team always knows how to bring each other up and motivate each other.
Before games I like to listen to music. I review my assignments on the court mentally so I am ready to go at game time. Along with stretching and warm-up, mental training is a very important part of a good pre-game ritual for me.
What do you like to do outside of sport?
Marquart: I enjoy hanging out with family and friends, shopping with friends, baking and reading.
