Q&A with Hutto football player Brody Bujnoch
HUTTO, Texas — We had a chance to sit down with Hutto’s senior star linebacker/tight end Brody Bujnoch (6’3” 220lbs), to chat about his experience being part of Hippo nation.
You have a very unique last name, what are it’s origins?
Brody Bujnoch: Our family traces it’s roots back to Czechoslovakia, but that was a couple generations ago.
So, how long have you lived in Hutto?
Bujnoch: I was born and raised here, I don’t know anything else – but, I have to say, I have always been grateful for this community! No regrets!
What got you interested in football?
Bujnoch: Well, I come from a football family, my dad was the defensive coordinator for the Hippos from about 1990 – 2006. He was on the coaching staff when Hutto went to the state championship.
Well, you certainly have the football pedigree. Was it hard having a dad for a coach?
Bujnoch: Don’t get me wrong, I really like the game of football for myself. All my brothers and I did! The great thing about our dad was that he was there when we needed him. He knew when to push and when to back off. He was never one of those dads who tried to relive his glory days through his kids.
So, your brothers play as well?
Bujnoch: Yes, my oldest brother (Brock), plays for Hardin-Simmons, and my youngest brother (Brigg), plays for the freshman team here in Hutto.
So basically, the home-version of the killer “B’s”?
Bujnoch: Yes sir! It can get a bit confusing for people!
How about your mom, does she like the sport?
Bujnoch: Like any mom, she worries about us getting hurt, but she is all in. If she is not able to be at the game, she is always watching online or listening to the game from somewhere. And the good news for our mom is that we are all play mostly on the defensive side of the ball, so we are the ones delivering the hits!
What is it that you like most about football?
Bujnoch: A lot of people talk about the physical nature of the game – and who doesn’t like to get a good hit? But, for me, its more about the strategy. I like thinking about matchups, learning the opposing team’s tendencies, and making mid-game adjustments. I like the strategic part of the game.
Anything else you’d like the community to know about you?
Bujnoch: Just that I really love being from here and playing here!
