Chilliwack G.W. Graham grad Jaiden Claassen earns BCFC football honours
CHILLIWACK, British Columbia (BVM) — Valley Huskers linebacker Jaiden Claasen has been critical to Chilliwack’s team during the 2022 British Columbia Football Conference regular season. But his defensive performance had its peak moment when he racked up seven tackles and an assist to stop the Langley Rams in a close 23-22 victory that left his team with a 4-2 record. His display was rewarded by the BCFC in Week 7 as he was named the defensive player of the week.
But Claassen’s consistency was rewarded last week when the 21-year-old also made the 2022 BCFC All-Star Defense team. He is one of the five members of the Huskers selected by the regional conference along with the Canadian Junior Football League. Isaiah Letander (offensive line), Reece Wyke (running back), Dylan Manocha (receiver), James Moar (defensive line) accompanied him in the excellence class.
The Chilliwack G.W. Graham Secondary alum wore the Grizzlies jersey between 2015 and 2020 and honed his defensive skills in a program that is currently ranked first among BC high school football teams and fifth nationwide on CanadaFootballChat.com Top 50 list. His high school team has cemented its reputation after winning the provincial AAA championship in 2021.
The native from Burnaby, BC has been a member of the Valley Huskers in the post-high school football league since 2019 in the hope of securing a contract in the CFL or another professional league just like former Huskers Andrew Harris (BC Lions running back), Sean Whyte (Montreal Alouettes kicker), Stefan Charles (Buffalo Bills defensive lineman), Paris Jackson (BC Lions quarterback) and Jamie Boreham (Hamilton Tiger-Cats punter/kicker) did.
