While playing, Tegan loves the feeling of being on the court in an intense game. With the adrenaline pumping and the stakes high, it is a challenge to stay calm under the pressure, and he enjoys every moment. Tegan finds that the biggest challenge of the game. Mentally staying confident, believing in himself and his team when times are tough. To manage this challenge, he brings energy, hustle, positivity, communication, and commitment to his team at every game and practice.

Before games, Tegan says it helps to listen to music that focuses him, followed by stretches in the weight room. Then he gets warmed up and shoots baskets. If there’s time, he’ll relax until the game begins.

Being a member of a team has taught Tegan solidarity, what brotherhood means, and that every team needs a consistent player no matter what. It has also taught him that communicating and being positive in life is especially key to a smooth life. However, nothing is ever perfect, as Tegan is aware. He tells us one time during a game he accidentally shows the other team where he was going to pass the ball, prior to passing it. They stole the ball; however, he hustled back on defense and retrieved the ball back for his team.

When asked about the best piece of advice he’s ever received, Tegan replied, “Fake it until you make it and ‘keep shooting.’ Fake it until you make it because it will lift everybody around you up. And keep shooting because once you find a rhythm you can’t lose it.”

Aside from basketball, Tegan enjoys relaxing after his studies. He also enjoys video games and beach volleyball.

“The play isn’t over until you hear a whistle, and the game isn’t over until you hear a horn. Always play your heart out.” -Tegan Douglass
