Meet Fossil Ridge HS boys head soccer coach Dan Weiss
FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Meet Dan Weiss, the Fossil Ridge Boys Soccer Head Coach. He’s been playing soccer since he was 4 years old and spent 10 years in competitive club.
Dan is in his fourth year at Fossil Ridge and has a passion for coaching these young men into something much greater than just good soccer players. His proudest moment at FRHS was watching their 5A state semifinal overtime win last year against Castle View. He was impressed by their fighting spirit and that they never gave up! The bond and relationships the kids had together was something special that helped push them to be great.
But there is a deeper purpose in his coaching methods that brings out the best in his players. He develops a strong mindset and work ethic to focus on the small things in training that build to the big things that help the team be successful in tough games. This translates to life in the real world as they become healthy and productive members of society. Dan teaches these young athletes the intricacies of soccer such as positioning, skills and tactics but the most important lessons are those that mold them to be good people with leadership skills.
When they suffer a loss, he encourages the kids to reflect, learn from their mistakes, and keep a short memory as they start preparation for the next game.
Dan hopes to leave a legacy of a program built on success, family, and strong values. He is very intentional in coaching his players to become good men and give back to their communities, families and friends. As a coach, he says, “it is important to remember that they are not our players as much as we are their coach. We have a responsibility to strive to grow and learn and put our egos aside to teach and mold them to be their best versions of themselves.”
