Meet west metro area youth flag football team, the Green Bay Packers
WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — We’re proud to introduce you to local flag football team, the Green Bay Packers! This group of 4th and 5th graders hail from all around the west metro area. Think Arvada, Golden, Wheat Ridge, Applewood, Lakewood, and Westminster. This team has been playing together since they were quite little, roughly 3 years, and it shows, as they are undefeated in the National Flag Football League!
The proud coaches of these kiddos are Jeff Meyer, Jake Wright, and Tom Hartbarger, along with team dad and motivator, Tomas Marin.
The goals for the team this season are:
- Respect your parents
- Respect your coaches
- Respect your fellow teammates
- Respect the referees
- Respect your opponents
- Give 100%, 100% of the time
Part of what makes this team work together so well is that they each have a chance to play a role in leadership. When it comes to the team captains, they change out weekly. According to the coaches, “We do this so that everybody gets exposure to leading and driving the team. We’ve found our success in making every player feel equally important and equally influential.”
Teamwork and dedication are what they live by, and that’s not just on the football field, it’s what the coaches teach the kids regarding life in general.
To keep the team inspired and excited during the season, they practice one hour before every game and have a group huddle and motivational “hoorah” from one of the coaches after each game.
The season is still going strong as this comes out, but the parents, coaches, and players are hopeful for a successful season. The Green Bay Packers went undefeated all last season, and the state tournament is coming soon. The team goal is to bring home the trophies!! However, no matter what happens, the team is in for a fun and exciting end-of-season party!!
We wish you luck Green Bay Packers! Make the west metro proud!
