Get to know Minster HS volleyball player Lilly Barhorst
MINSTER, Ohio — Introducing an accomplished athlete from the Minster varsity volleyball team. Lilly Barhorst is a junior at Minster High School and has a strong passion for sports.
She has been playing volleyball for seven years and has played for a few different teams. Lilly is an outside hitter and middle back passer for Minster this year, but has also played for Grandlake and is currently playing for Atlantis. Barhorst received 2nd Team All-MAC and 2nd Team All-District honors during her sophomore season. In addition, she received the Most Improved Player award her freshman year.
“I love how competitive the atmosphere of volleyball can be,” Lilly says when asked what her favorite part of the sport is. Thriving in a competitive environment is a very valuable skill in the world of athletics, however, Lilly recognizes that not everything goes to plan during the fast-paced game of volleyball.
“It’s important to put mistakes behind you quickly and focus on what’s next. Identify how to fix the error and be ready for the next point,” she tells us.
Many challenges can arise during a volleyball match, and Lilly emphasizes the importance of staying mentally tough. This can be a difficult skill to master, but it is crucial to remain focused.
As a junior, Lilly has made countless memories with her teammates throughout the years.
“My favorite memories in volleyball are the locker room jam sessions before games and post-game Dairy Queen adventures with the team,” she says.
When asked what her advice to an underclassman would be, Lilly tells us, “It’s hard to succeed when you’re not having fun. When you’re putting too much pressure on yourself it results in nerves and forgetting how to do the little things right. So, you should always step on the court knowing that you worked hard in practice to be able to perform your skills.”
In addition to volleyball, Barhorst is also a member of the Minster varsity basketball and track teams. When she isn’t playing sports, Lilly enjoys swimming, being outdoors, creating art, playing cards, and hanging out with friends.
We’re excited to see what the future holds for this talented athlete, and are looking forward to seeing her live out her positive mindset in all of her endeavors.
