What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?
Danielle Poulsen: I would love the opportunity to play at the collegiate level.
What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?
Poulsen: The biggest challenges in field hockey for me are the mental blocks and being hard on myself when I miss the shot. I manage this by practicing 5-6 days a week to improve my skills.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
Poulsen: “Do whatever makes you happy.” – My parents
What do you love about your sport?
Poulsen: I love the team aspect, the camaraderie amongst the athletes and how we are working together to achieve the same goal.
Do you have a pregame ritual you follow?
Poulsen: I listen to a certain song before every game, and I have a cow print headband I wear every game for my club team.
What do you like to do outside of your sport?
Poulsen: I like to work at Moe’s and play with my friends on my Xbox.
What has being a member of a team taught you?
Poulsen: To put your trust in others.
Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.
Poulsen: One game I was struggling to hit the ball consistently. I stopped tensing up and broke down the steps, then I could hit.
What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?
Poulsen: “Go outside your comfort zone.” – My first field hockey coach, Coach Tina Chipman
