Webb girls cross country team wins Knoxville Interscholastic League Championship
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Webb’s cross-country head coach, Bobby Holcombe, says the women’s victory on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the KIL (Knoxville Interscholastic League Championship) was the first since 2018.
“The women’s team won overall,” Holcombe said. “They’re 5K cross-country champions. It’s the first time since 2018 that we won. I think Farragut had been winning the previous years.”
Coach Holcombe believes the win is partly due to the team’s hard work ethic. This year’s team includes Jaazzlyn Garmer, Anna Graves, Calysta Garmer, Lauren Davis, Avery Krishnan, Huxley McCollum and Anna Kate Autry.
“They made a pretty good commitment to start training as soon as the season started on June 13. We had camp at Picket State Park and I think that really brought the team together. They’re really supportive of each other on and off the field. They’re the kind of team that does the little things we ask, in addition to the big things. They’re really internally competitive and enjoy competing.
In addition to coaching cross-country at Webb School of Knoxville, Holcombe also trains adults at Knoxville Endurance.
