Jamal Crawford, Jason Terry among Seattle’s top 10 NBA players

5. James Edwards, C, Roosevelt

Similar to several guys on this list, Edwards played a lot of years in the NBA, and consistency was a theme throughout his career. A state champion at Roosevelt High School, Edwards attended the University of Washington where he had a tremendous four-year career highlighted by an All-American senior season in which he averaged 20.9 points and 10.4 rebounds. Edwards was selected 46th overall in the third round of the 1977 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, and was thrust into action early in his rookie season after Kareem Abdul-Jabbar suffered a broken hand. However, Edwards’ time in L.A. didn’t last long, as he would soon be moved to the Indiana Pacers, who he averaged nearly 16 points and 7.5 rebounds for across four seasons. Edwards had stops in Cleveland and Phoenix following his time in the Hoosier State where he remained very productive. Then, the 7-foot center joined the Detroit Pistons where he won back-to-back championships as part of the Pistons’ Bad Boy squads. Edwards became a role player in the twilight of his career with the Clippers, Lakers, Trail Blazers and Bulls, but played at the highest level for 19 years until he was 40 years old, finishing with career averages of 12.7 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting nearly 50% from the field.
