Johnny is the Jets’ good luck charm with ice cream victories

NEW YORK (BVM) – For New York Jets fans, the 40-17 victory over the Dolphins on Sunday was a sweet one. But for some fans, it was sweeter for different reasons.

Prior to the season, a young fan known simply as Johnny was introduced to the world via the Jets’ social media team.

He got the chance to interview star rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner and asked him only the important questions.

“My dad always takes me for ice cream when the New York Jets win,” Johnny said in a video on the Jets Twitter account. “How many times do you think my dad is going to take me for ice cream?”

Johnny’s ice cream question quickly made the rounds all over social media and became somewhat of a playful mantra for the organization and its fans.

After every win thus far this season, the Jets’ social media team has made it a priority to post a video of Johnny with his victory treat.

The players are also going all in on the fun, with Johnny even being shouted out by linebacker Hamsah Nasrildeen following the win on Sunday.

For Johnny, there has not been much ice cream in his past with the Jets winning a total of six games over the past two seasons. But this year feels different.

New York has already reached three wins in five games in 2022, holding an above .500 record for the first time since 2018.

An even more promising note for the organization is that some of its best players have been from its rookie class.

Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson and Breece Hall have been vital to the Jets’ early-season success. They have also reaped early rewards from fourth-round pick Micheal Clemons.

With the way things are looking for the Jets in 2022 and beyond, there may be more dentist visits in Johnny’s future with his increased ice cream consumption.
