Eisenhower HS tennis doubles team of Ava Meyer and Maia Samuelson wins state title

NEW BERLIN, Wis. — Ava Meyer and Maia Samuelson, New Berlin Eisenhower’s top doubles team, notched a historic victory at the WIAA Division 2 State Tennis Tournament at Nielson Stadium over the weekend.

Making their third straight state tournament appearance, the pair of seniors and the top-seeded team improved to 33-2 this year with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over third-seeded Sophia Rondeau and Katie Metcalf of East Troy in the title match.

No other Eisenhower or West tennis player – boys or girls – have ever won the state tournament in either schools’ history.

Meyer and Samuelson won all four of their state matches over the weekend in straight sets, with their toughest matchup coming in a 7-5, 6-3 semifinal victory over University School’s Isabel Werner and Mia Darr.

Congratulations to Ava and Maia on their historic feat!
