John Mosley returns for Last Chance U: Basketball Season 2

LOS ANGELES (BVM) – From the first seconds of the first trailer for Netflix’s “Last Chance U: Basketball” it was clear that John Mosley had a passion for the game. A screaming Mosley could be seen trying to get his East Los Angeles College team to refocus on the goal at hand–winning the game in front of them.

From that moment on, fans became more associated with Mosley and why he has such a deep love for basketball and his players. Now, fans will get to experience Mosley’s passion and coaching once again following Netflix’s announcement that “Last Chance U: Basketball” will return for a second season premiering on Dec. 13.

Growing up near the same area where he attended Washington Prep High School, Mosley was in his players shoes years prior when he joined the ELAC Huskies and he wants to provide those kids with some of the same opportunities he was given during his time as a JUCO product.

Mosley’s love for basketball and his players oozes out of the coach throughout nearly the entire run time of the show. To this day when looking at the first season on Netflix, viewers can see one of his most passionate moments come out as the show’s preview as he tells his players one day their basketball careers are “just going to be over, it’s just going to be over just like that.”

Of course, no team experienced that kind of blink and you miss it more than the 2019-20 squad featured in the series’ first season. That year, Mosley led the Huskies to a program-best 29-1 season including a 25-game winning streak and a fifth-straight South Coast Conference-North title. However, dreams of bringing home the program’s first CCCAA state title were dashed when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the playoffs and the entire next season of basketball.

Though fans will not find out where the second season will pick up the story, expect a significant portion of the first couple of episodes to discuss the pandemic, the abrupt end to the 2019-20 campaign and the lost season. From there, the show will look into the team’s 2021-22 season with a whole new crop of players under the watchful eye of Mosley.

While details of the show are scarce, a look at their previous season will reveal some things to keep in mind (without spoiling the ending). The Huskies will look to recover from the pandemic by trying to win their sixth straight South Coast Conference-North title. Mosley will be at the helm as he searches for a sixth straight SCC-North Coach of the Year title as well.

Players on the court will be led by Corey Cofield, a 6-foot-5, 185-pound freshman guard who ended his year as the SCC-North Player of the Year after averaging 9.2 points per game on 58.6% shooting. Other notable players to watch for include All-SCC-North first team members Tyrelle Hunt and Bryan Penn-Johnson along with All SCC-North second team selections JT Langston and Dezmond Washington. While Last Chance U doesn’t always have a focus on the bigname players, looking more closely at the interesting off-the-field stories of the athletes, chances are one or more of these players will be featured prominently during the season.

As always, the coach will also be a main focus and that will be no different as Mosley leads his men through season 2’s action. While the stories and results of the season may not be known, one thing can be predicted–Mosley will bring all his energy and passion with him for the newest season of “Last Chance U: Basketball”.
