Get to know Bloomfield Hills HS boys soccer coach Dougie MacAulay
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. — Dougie MacAulay is the dedicated and passionate Head Varsity boy’s soccer coach at Bloomfield Hills High School. MacAulay brings a wide range of experience to his team as he played soccer in both Scotland and Australia.
Unfortunately, a knee injury kept him out of the game but he found a passion for coaching. He’s been coaching for over 30 years. MacAulay’s zest for coaching led him to obtain multiple certifications. He has obtained a Union of European Football Association (UEFA) B license, an Advanced National Diploma and a National youth license. MacAulay believes the key to a successful season is to maintain and develop technical skills so the team can produce the tactical operations. When asked about his most memorable win, MacAulay shared, “my most memorable has to be the State Final, which I have been fortunate enough to be in two.
One was with Bloomfield Lahser in 2010 which was D2 based on school size. The other was a State Final in 2013. That was the first year of the Black Hawks and will live with me forever. Two schools became one in D1 and the team chemistry was fantastic.” Over the years, MacAulay has played such a pivotal role coaching the boys soccer team that he was recently inducted to the first ever BHHS Hall of Fame with the team from 2013. It is an honor he will always cherish. MacAulay offers this advice to all athletes, “the game is similar to life, you will always have your good times and bad times. Nothing is predictable and you have to weather the storms to become stronger.” He hopes that his players remember him as a coach who loves the game and always raises the bar to achieve all that is possible. MacAulay is looking forward to coaching many more winning seasons with the Black Hawks.
