Get to know Mill Creek HS football player, discus thrower Jeremiah Schine

HOSCHTON, Ga. — “The best advice I was given is to chase my dreams, even if they seem unreachable. Never give up,” Jeremiah Schine, a two-sport athlete at Mill Creek High School tells me. Jeremiah doesn’t compare himself to others. He simply tries to improve his own game every day.

Sixteen-year-old Jeremiah is an offensive lineman who is working on his first steps once he comes up and out of his stance. His goal this year has been to perfect his technique and catch the eye of college scouts. He and his parents are entrenched in the recruiting process, sending out film and narrowing down where he would like to take his visits. This coming spring break the family plans to take a few visits and pare the list down even further.

Jeremiah views everything as a learning experience. That outlook is based on stellar advice from his head coach, Josh Lovelady, who told him “No matter the wins or losses it will always be a learning experience.”

Jeremiah truly embraces going through those learning experiences as a part of a brotherhood. He tells me of pre-game prayers with his guys (Mannie, Jax, Donnington, Denick, Parker, Arturo) and speaks fondly of the team aspect of football saying, “Being a member of a team taught me how to be humble and always have my football brothers’ backs on the field. Being on a team showed me that I cannot do it by myself.”

Like many athletes, Jeremiah is a natural born competitor. “I love the feeling of my cleats hitting the turf or grass when I first step on the field,” he says, “I love the adrenaline rush I get when we break through the football banner at the beginning of each game. I love hearing the cheerleaders and the band as they yell ‘MC Baby!’”

The dual sport athlete is making moves in Track and Field as well. A discus thrower, during Regionals Jeremiah had a moment that really shows how coachable he is. His first throw was marked short, but after some technique advice from Coach Shelton, Jeremiah was able to make the necessary adjustments. As the discus began to soar, he could see his second attempt was much better. It turned out to be a personal record for Jeremiah! The real story being that he doesn’t get in his head, can listen to coaching and apply it mid-contest.

To get hype before a game Jeremiah listens to “Ready for War” by Major Nine or “Chip on My Shoulder” by Rod Wave. “Rod Wave is my go-to artist. He is always a banger,” Jeremiah states matter of fact.

When asked about pre-game snacks, Jeremiah brings up Honey Buns! There is a distinct reason why. See, offensive lineman are always trying to rack up football pancakes. At Mill Creek, Jeremiah’s position coach gives out Honey Buns for every two pancakes in a game. “On Mondays I be stacked with Honey Buns,” Jeremiah says with a laugh.

Outside of sports, Jeremiah loves to spend time with family, travel, and go to the movies. He works at McDonald’s as a crew trainer on night shift to make money. Jeremiah has incredible work ethic and is a student that is easy to root for.

We can’t wait to follow your journey, Jeremiah!
