Hudsonville HS volleyball team hosts pink out game to benefit Shields of Hope
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — The Hudsonville girls’ varsity volleyball team is taking their fight off the court. They held their pink out game, which is an honorary game to celebrate those fighting and those who have fought cancer. Cancer runs so deep in just about everyone’s life that we all know someone currently or previously fighting. Because of this, they felt called to support those in our community.
Each player selects someone to play for that night. Each girl on the team also gets a pink carnation to pass out to their honorary person they are playing for. The team has been doing this for 12 years now, but they’ve really increased attendance and the pre-match ceremony the last two years.
This year they also got help from the sports marketing class. They ran everything from decorations, to raffles, to fundraising, to creating, ordering, and selling shirts/jerseys, to publication and even marketing the event.
This year they picked Shields of Hope as their fundraising organization. They are a local organization that provides support and hope for families battling cancer. They raised more than $5,000.
Head coach, Stephanie Chenlo they love to host this event and see Hudsonville alumni come back and watch, to see future Hudsonville Volleyball players attend, as well as school staff members (current and retired) and all our parents support us as a team and the cause we’re raising money for.
Chenlo says they pride themselves on being a competitive and fun program but more important than that, they as a coaching staff are really focusing on building a strong culture and doing all of the little things right to get their athletes ready for post-high school life. As a program and team, they are honored to be a part of such a supportive community where all the girls’ hard work is acknowledged. FIRE UP!
