Liberty HS boys soccer team finishing the season strong

LIBERTY, Mo. — With the end of their season approaching, the Liberty High School men’s soccer team plans on finishing their season strong with the leadership from 14 seniors and head coach, Thomas Rottjakob.

This will be Coach Rottjakob’s 23rd season as head coach. His favorite part about coaching is watching the maturation and growth of the boys that have come through the program. When asked what the team’s goals are for the remainder of the season he answered, “We are just trying to get better every day so that we are playing up to our potential by the time the post-season starts.”

Striker Joel Litten, one of the 14 seniors, has a goal to win districts one last time before he graduates. To prepare mentally and physically for games, he listens to music and plays 5v5 with his teammates. Litten hopes to carry his soccer career into college.

Before each game, senior midfielder Jordan Gaona enjoys listening to his favorite music and talks with his dad to get himself in the right state of mind. His favorite high school soccer memory is getting to play with all his closest friends. After high school, Gaona hopes to play college soccer should the opportunity arise.

Defender Jaden Farrimond’s goal for the rest of the season is also to win districts and finish his senior season strong. His favorite part of being on the team is being able to play with all his friends, which makes the game much more fun. Farrimond plans to attend a four-year university and study sports marketing.

Like the rest of the team, goalkeeper Garrett Taylor’s goal for his senior season is to win districts. The highlight of the season was when he saved two goals in a penalty shoot-out against Park Hill South. Taylor plans to attend Maple Woods for his first two years of college with the A+ Program.

Frank Fuentes, a senior defender, enjoys playing on the soccer team because he is able to represent Liberty High School. Before each game, he mentally prepares by listening to music and physically prepares with stretching. After graduation, Fuentes will be using his A+ Program to attend Maple Woods for two years.

After interviewing some of the seniors, and Coach Rottjakob, it is evident that the players on the team are all on the same page: finish the season strong. The Jays are set to play in their first district game on Saturday, October 29th; location, time, and opponent are yet to be determined.
