TCU Hypnotoad deserving of all the glory

FORT WORTH, Texas (BVM) – TCU football is undefeated and atop the Big 12 after back-to-back secondhalf comebacks against ranked opponents. The Horned Frogs are flying high right now and amongst the hype of an undefeated season, the team has adopted a new mascot: the Hypnotoad.

The character from the TV show “Futurama” has taken over TCU football and has found its way into multiple aspects of the team. It’s in an epic pregame hype video to get fans excited, the team plays it during big plays for the opposing team and now even TCU head coach Sonny Dykes is repping the Hypnotoad.

On Friday, ahead of the Horned Frogs’ home game against 17thranked Kansas State, Dykes wore a TCUcolored Hypnotoad hoodie. The hoodie immediately became a sought after article of clothing on Twitter, with college football fans everywhere asking where they could buy the “Futurama” themed merchandise.

Since then, Hypnotoad has continued to gain traction with TCU fans as the Horned Frogs scored 28-unanswered points and held the Wildcats scoreless in the second half to win 38-28. During the second half, Kansas State did miss two field goals while Hypnotoad was on the jumbo screen. Whether that can be attributed to Hypnotoad is up to you but with that being the second comeback win for the undefeated Horned Frogs, people are buying into the hype.

Even TCU starting quarterback Max Duggan was repping a TCU Hypnotoad shirt during his post-game press conference on Saturday after the win over Kansas State.

The team is embracing the Hypnotoad and fans are buying the merchandise. TCU is trending towards a shot at its first appearance in the college football playoff and first Big 12 title since 2014. At 7-0 and ranked seventh in the nation, it might be time to yell, ‘All glory to the TCU Hypnotoad!’
