Meet Healdsburg HS volleyball coach Richard Mitts
HEALDSBURG, Calif. — If you ask coach Richard Mitts what’s changed the most about Healdsburg High School’s Girl’s Volleyball this year, he’s quick to tell you, “It’s the culture.
The girls are really good friends. It’s a young team, so most of them will spend a lot of their high school careers together. They know this is a team sport, and each one is important to the team. Together, we’re playing great. I appreciate everything the parents do for their kids. They have faith in the girls.”
Coach Mitts is a ball of energy. In addition to coaching girls’ volleyball at HHS, he has a full-time job as an electrical engineer at a local company that designs optical systems for aircraft. He grew up in Orange County, where he played volleyball on one of the more than 100 men’s volleyball teams, adding, “The schools were so big, you could get lost in them. Healdsburg is a small town, and the girls should be proud of themselves. I’m glad they’re getting recognition.”
