Q&A with Greenall HS football and basketball player Anthony Ruetz

BALGONIE, Saskatchewan — Anthony Ruetz plays football and Basketball for the Greenall Griffins.

The grade 11 student battled through a serious arm injury in a game versus Martin Luther, onlt to come back in time for the playoffs. He’s hoping for a successful season on the hardcourt this winter.

Anthony sat down with us for a Q & A.

What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?

Anthony Ruetz: I want to play sports at the university level.

What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?

Ruetz: For my position I am undersized, I make up for this with good footwork and skills.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Ruetz: Persistence beats talent, you’ll never win if you don’t put in 100% effort.

What do you love about your sport?

Ruetz: I love the team aspect and the hard work and grit of football.

Do you have a pregame ritual you follow?

Ruetz: I don’t have a pregame ritual I follow every game.

What do you like to do outside of your sport?

Ruetz: I like to hang out with friends.

What has being a member of a team taught you?

Ruetz: That attitude before the game and on the sideline is one of the most important parts of the game.

What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?

Ruetz: Have fun on the field, because if you aren’t having fun then you aren’t playing right.

Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.

Ruetz: I used to not know my assignments on plays, I made up for it by studying my playbook.
