Fredericksburg HS girls cross country team places 2nd in UIL State Championships

FREDERICKSBURG, Texas — Yesterday, the Fredericksburg High School Girls Cross Country Team wrapped up the 2022 season at the UIL State Championships with a 2nd place team finish in the 4A division!

Although our team goal was to go win the state title, I am extremely proud of our young ladies that gave it their all to finish as the 2nd place team for the 2nd year in a row! It is tough to qualify to the state meet, but it is even tougher to find a way onto the award stand as a top 3 team to earn medals. All of our girls left the meet with a team medal and they did it two seasons in a row!

Last year, Celina beat us 80 to 111 and this year they only beat us 70 to 86. Celina earned that state champ spot again with the phenomenal team they have as they were the better team yesterday, but we gave them a really good race to the end to make it closer than last season even with our young squad. They had an experienced team last year and graduated two runners. They once again will graduate two more seniors this season from their championship team. Our girls team now has two solid years of experience and we have everyone returning again next season with our team focus already set on continuing to develop everyone so that we can go make a run at the state title next year!

We had three top 15 finishers yesterday who earned CCCAT (Cross Country Coaches Association) All State Team honors. They were from 2nd place medalist (Taylor Grona), 9th place medalist (Rilyn Grona), and 11th place finisher (Ann Claire Cop). It was a really close race for the top 15 runners and despite the rainy and windy conditions that made times slower than usual, it was a great race to watch as they all battled each other throughout the 2mile course! Our 4th and 5th runners who helped contribute to the 86 team points was Ava Stuewe (43rd) and Anna Munoz (52nd).
