Ohio State commit Jontae Gilbert leads next Georgia HS wave
ATLANTA (BVM) — Every year, the state of Georgia produces top-tier college football talent. No matter how much the state loses on an annual basis, it always replenishes with some of the nation’s best prospects.
Jontae Gilbert will lead that next wave.
Just a sophomore at Douglass High School, the star cornerback already has a stellar resume.
According to On3, he is the No. 8 player in the country for the 2025 recruiting class and committed to Ohio State in July.

“It was the great relationships I had with Coach Patrick, Coach Eliano and Coach Walton,” Gilbert said. “They loved me and my tape.”
The rankings from the major outlets, followed by his Buckeyes offer, provided a nice confidence boost for the 16-year-old.
“That was real big for me,” Gilbert said.
Despite not even being halfway through his prep career at the time of his commitment, the comfortability that he had with the Ohio State staff was enough to go ahead and announce his decision.
“We talked every week,” Gilbert said of his connection with Coach Walton. “He felt like I could be a part of their system that they have over there.”
Because of Gilbert’s highly touted status as a recruit, his lifestyle is a little different from the typical high schooler.
When there are times he would like to hang out with friends, his phone rings, with a coach or reporter on the other end of the line.
Gilbert already has to carry a sense of professionalism, despite his young age.
“I have reporters calling every week,” Gilbert said. “It’s cool though.”
Playing the game of football for the long run is something that Gilbert has thought about for quite a while. But despite all of his accomplishments and accolades thus far, Gilbert still strives to better himself one day at a time.
“I’m just still grinding right now,” Gilbert said. “I’m still not satisfied with where I’m at right now.”
