Douglas S. Freeman HS and St. Christopher’s HS football teams play for first time since 1958
RICHMOND, Va. — Despite their proximity – about three miles – Douglas S. Freeman High School and St. Christopher’s School had not met for a football game since 1958. That 64-year streak ended in late October with a second-half victory for the Saints. Their 20-0 run began with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Kahlil Nash to Henry Omohundro, a team captain.
Only a few plays later, and with 20 seconds remaining, Nash scrambled out to the left and made a heroic dive into the end zone to make it 14-13. Jack Slokker knocked in the point-after-touchdown to tie the game, which soon moved into overtime.
The St. Christopher’s defense successfully held off Freeman, which missed a field goal attempt. For the game’s final possession, Nash reached the end zone once again to seal the game for the Saints.
The win versus the eighth-ranked Mavericks (Richmond Times-Dispatch poll) gave the Saints a huge confidence boost that they carried into their 14-3 victory over Collegiate on Nov. 4. The defense held the Cougars to only one field goal, while the Saints’ offense saw touchdowns from Henry Omohundro and Mikey Farley.
