Oak Ridge HS girls volleyball team wins division championship

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. — Back-to-back! The Oak Ridge High School Girls’ Varsity Volleyball has repeated as Sac-Joaquin Division One section champions. They defeated St. Francis High School three to one in sets on Saturday, November 5, at Natomas High School in Sacramento. The Trojans have now won three section titles in five seasons under head coach Trevin Morgan.

This year’s team was an excellent all-around squad, led by a ferocious trifecta of outside hitters: seniors Madison Walker and Emily Child, and junior Elle Weaver. These three combined for 835 points on attacks, with Weaver leading them all at 348 of her own. The Trojans were not just limited to hitting; they also had excellent serving, great team chemistry, and standout coaching that helped lead them to a record of 31 wins and 4 losses.

Oak Ridge was able to earn a spot in the Open Division Bracket, the highest level of competition in the CIF state championship tournament, meaning they were one of the best teams in the entire state of California. Part of this placement must be credited to the young talent that the Trojans possess. Only six of the 20 girls on the team were seniors. Some of these younger players include stars like Elle Weaver, and serving sensations Avery Town and Kate Fagundes, the latter two being a sophomore and junior, respectively, and were an integral part of this year’s success. They consistently put the ball in spots the opponents couldn’t reach and came in clutch on many occasions as they combined for 53 aces and 383 points off serves. With all but six players on this year’s roster returning next season, the Trojans look to repeat as section champions next season under the guidance of coach Morgan.
