Top 10 UCLA Bruins men’s basketball players of all time
3. Sidney Wicks (1968-71)
Wicks had the difficult task of trying to replace Lew Alcindor, otherwise known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, for the Bruins and he did the job admirably. After winning with Abdul-Jabbar in 1969, Wicks became the leader of the team as a junior in 1970 where he would help UCLA win another championship on his way to Most Outstanding Player honors of the tournament and Helms Foundation Co-Player of the Year. As a senior in 1971, Wicks led the Bruins to the three-peat as he was named the Sporting News Player of the Year and earned his second consecutive consensus All-American honors. He scored 1,423 points in his career, No. 27 all time, and averaged 15.8 points and 9.9 rebounds over 90 games. His No. 35 jersey is retired by the program.
