6. Slater Martin (1943-49)

Although he stood just 5-foot-10, Martin was as tough as they come, and showed plenty of athletic ability while playing for Texas as well. Just four games into his Longhorns career, Martin left to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. But soon, he returned to Texas where he averaged 12.7 points across his Longhorns career, helping the program reach the Final Four in 1947. Perhaps the guard’s most notable stat line was scoring a program-record 49 points in a contest against TCU in 1949. He graduated at the top of Texas’ all-time scoring list, and went on to win five championships in the NBA, eventually being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
