LIBERTY, Mo. — Liberty North junior, Sage Wilde, helped lead the Eagles Cross Country team to a Missouri Class 5 State Championship.  Wilde was also the individual state champion as well. His personal record time in the 5K is 14:36, which is the second fastest time in Missouri history. It is the #9 overall high school time in the nation in 2022, and the #2 fastest time among juniors. “Sage is the hardest worker you will ever meet, often pushing himself to feats never thought possible,” says Liberty North Cross-Country coach, David Chatlos, “He is a great teammate and helped lead this team to a state championship.”

Liberty North junior, Bailey Burkett, helped lead the Eagles golf team to another podium placing at the Class 4 State Golf Championships held at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin. The team has finished top three in the state tournament for the past three seasons. Bailey, the returning state champion, earned her third all-state finish in the tournament. “The most memorable moment for me this season was winning districts,” says Burkett. “Coming off winning state last year I struggled this season with putting too much pressure on myself to win every tournament or to shoot personal records every time I played. So being able to learn that I play my best golf when I don’t push, or don’t have too much self-pressure, is a valuable thing.”

Liberty North senior, Georgia Carter, has been a top player and leader for Eagle Tennis for several years, earning a state qualification in doubles, as well as all-district and all-conference honors. “The most memorable moment from my season this year,” says Carter, “was all the friendships I have built over the years. These are friendships that I know will last a lifetime.”

“Georgia has been the #1 singles and doubles player for LNHS tennis since she was a freshman, “says tennis coach Doug Davis, “In that time, she has grown immensely as a teammate and student.  She is a very bright student who learns quickly and can understand and apply advanced concepts.  What many people do not know is that Georgia has a great sense of humor, is very funny, and has a real comic side.”

Liberty North sophomore swimmer, Preston Zuber, was the conference champion in the 200 IM, an event for which he set a new school record. He was also third in the 100 fly, second in the 200 medley relay and third place in the 400 free relay.

“Preston is definitely a hard worker, and he always approaches things the right way,” says Liberty North swim coach Mark Warner. “He approaches practices in a professional way. When he is at practice, he is ready to work hard and give his best effort and pushes himself.”
