Hoover HS girls golf team completes undefeated season

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — This season the Hoover High School girls golf team finished with a record of 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the league. They won the Federal League Championship, as well as seven tournaments during the season including the Federal League Post-Season Tournament and the OHSAA State Sectional Tournament.

We qualified for the OHSAA State Championships where we finished 8th overall.

During the season, the girls set 3 school records — 9-hole team score, 18-hole team score, and senior Halle Ellis set an individual record for 9-hole scoring by shooting 3 under par 32 at Arrowhead Golf Course.

The girls who participated in the OHSAA State Championships were seniors Halle Ellis and Hannah Higgins, and sophomores Ava Kemp, Kylie Porter, and Alyssa Evans.

Sophomore Ava Kemp won the OHSAA State Sectional Tournament with a round of even par 72 at Massillon Elms Golf Course and finished 3rd individually at the OHSAA State District Tournament with a round of 76 at Brookledge Golf Course.

The athletes earned numerous honors and awards.

Halle Ellis was 1st Team All Federal League as well as the Player of the Year for the Federal League, 1st Team All Stark County, 1st Team All Northeast Ohio, and Academic All Ohio.

Hannah Higgins was 1st Team All Federal League, 1st Team All Stark County, 2nd Team All Northeast Ohio, and Academic All Ohio.

Ava Kemp was 1st Team All Federal League, 1st Team All Stark County, and 1st Team All-Northeast Ohio.

Kylie Porter was 2nd Team All Federal League, and 1st Team All Stark County.

Alyssa Evans was Honorable Mention All Federal League and Honorable Mention All Stark County.

Olivia Phannenschmidt was Honorable Mention All Stark County.

This was a very special season with an outstanding group of girls. They dedicated enormous amounts of time and were very close as a group.

Also, our success this year is directly related to the success we’ve had for years now.  As a whole, either an individual or the team has qualified for the State Championships for the past 6 years and 8 of the past 12 years.  We take great pride in EVERYTHING we’ve done and accomplished for many years now, and the girls love carrying on the tradition of excellence that has been with us for many many years now.
