Ganakas guided the Spartans to five straight winning campaigns in seven years. Michigan State went 89-84 during his tenure with the team. His best year saw them go 17-9. Ganakas served as a bridge between the lowly late 1960s and brighter days that would follow.
In 2017 Gus Ganakas spoke about his life as a Spartan for a video to be included in the Hall of History.
