How long have you been running cross country?

Kaeden Anderson: I’ve been running most of my life. I did my first 5k at four years old!

What are your personal goals within your sport?

Anderson: I have always wanted to run D1 in college. This summer, I got to do a half marathon with my grandpa and mom. One day I would love to run a marathon with them.

[D1, short for Division 1, is the highest level of intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States, which accepts players globally.]

What was the best advice you received?

Anderson: My grandpa has always told me that if you run your best and give it your all, that’s all you can ask for. Whether it’s a disappointing or good outcome, I always reflect on this to determine how I should feel about my race.

Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.

Anderson: A mistake I made earlier this year was when I was racing at the Lowell invitational. With so many people around me, I figured top 20 would be a good placement for me. I thought I didn’t belong there and didn’t push myself as hard as I could for the first mile. It was a surprise when things evened out, and I ended up placing 4th. Learning from this, I know I need to run my own race regardless of where I am.
