Previewing the Mamaroneck HS boys basketball season

MAMARONECK, N.Y. — Mamaroneck Basketball has always had great success on the court. With a top-notch coaching staff and dedicated players, the team is looking ahead on the season with excitement and optimism. We caught up with senior captains, Aidan Roy and Ethan Glassman to hear about the program and their hopes for the season:

What are your hopes for this year’s team?

Aidan Roy: My hope for this year’s team is to make history in the Mamaroneck basketball program. I think we have all put in a ton of work over the offseason and are ready for that challenge.

Ethan Glassman: My hope for this year’s team is to be the first team in Mamaroneck history to win at least 19 games and also win a section championship. With all the hours of hard work we’ve put in this offseason we feel like we have what it takes to elevate the standard for Mamaroneck basketball.

What makes the Mamaroneck Basketball program so special?

Roy: The connection between each and every player. All year round we spend so much time together, whether it be playing 45 games over the summer, or spending nights at team camps, we have built a really strong community that allows us to all play for each other. We all collectively hold each other to extremely high standards, when we are playing against each other we always go at it, but at the end of the day we know we’re doing it to make everybody better so it’s all love after all.

Glassman: The family-like bonds that all of us create with each other. We collectively spend so much time together not only from November to March, but also from April to October. We all have strong relationships with each other that helps us out every time we step on the court.

What is one of your favorite stories from your Varsity career?

Roy: The annual tip off dinner when every player has to give a speech. This is a favorite memory to me because it was a time where our whole team got to share a bunch of laughs together and all collectively were embarrassed!

Glassman: Going to the basketball hall of fame after the season ended last year. It was a great bonding experience for us and we all had a ton of fun.
