Top 10 San Francisco 49ers running backs of all time
10. Kevan Barlow (2001-05)
Barlow is one of the most recent rushers on the list, manning the 49ers backfield alongside Garrison Hearst in the early 2000s prior to the arrival of Frank Gore. In five seasons in San Francisco, Barlow racked up 3,614 rushing yards, the eighth-best total in Niners history. Even though he was not the starter for the first few years of his career with Hearst in town, Barlow’s combination of power and speed were a perfect compliment to the lead back. His best season came in 2003 where the 6-foot-1, 235-pound back ran for 1,024 yards and six touchdowns, averaging over five yards per carry. He became the 49ers’ starting back through most of the 2004 and 2005 seasons, compiling 1,403 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns before heading off to New York to play his final NFL season with the Jets in 2006.
