Kyle Busch begins new era with RCR after sponsor unveiling

WELCOME, N.C. (BVM) – The changes keep coming this offseason for two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Kyle Busch. After 15 seasons with Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), Busch has continued to unveil the upcoming look that he and Richard Childress Racing (RCR) will deploy in 2023. Following the swap of his famed No. 18 to now No. 8, sponsors Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, 3CHI, Alsco, Lenovo and BetMGM all announced their return to the RCR team.

“Our business relationships are paramount to our organization and we’re proud to confirm that our primary partners on the No. 8 team will be returning to RCR in 2023,” RCR president Torrey Galida said. “Their commitment to our organization is a testament to our team’s collaborative approach and the value it has delivered to so many great brands.”

Along with the swap of numbers, that includes a new-look to Childress’ previous No. 8 font that was once sported by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Busch will be shifting from Toyota to Chevrolet this year as he’s already begun to make adjustments to make the new fit more comfortable. After ending his long-time career with the JRG team during the Nov. 6 season finale at Phoenix Raceway, Busch is hoping he can put together a second chapter similar to those of athletes in other sports.

“It’s obviously been challenging … not just this year but the last little while, and so it’s kind of maybe a blessing in disguise, honestly, where it might just be a time for a fresh start, time for something new and something different,” Busch said. “So I’m kind of looking at it as the Tom Brady-Peyton Manning aspect where they left great teams, great organizations where they won championships, and they went on and were able to win championships somewhere else. So I’d like to think that I still have that opportunity to be able to do that with RCR.”

With Joe Gibbs Racing transitioning Busch’s No. 18 to Ty Gibbs’ No. 54 car, both teams will enter the upcoming year with a much different look. Busch will work with crew chief Randall Burnett, who helped Tyler Reddick to his first three Cup Series victories in 2022, and spotter Derek Kneeland.
