Get to know Tahlequah soccer player Tabor Robinson
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Tabor Robinson has been playing soccer since he was four years old. He is now 17 and a senior at Tahlequah High School. As a center defensive midfielder for the Tigers, Tabor’s role is to set the tempo and keep that rhythm going the entire game. He has to create opportunities for the offense to attack and is the first line of defense. On average, Tabor will run around 7-10 miles per game, combining short sprints and longer runs. Tabor must work year-round to keep himself game ready. According to his coach, Greg Hall, Tabor’s work ethic has contributed to his growth as a player.
Tabor also plays for Tulsa Soccer Club (TSC) year-round, which can be challenging at times. His goal is to play collegiate soccer, and Tabor knows he must manage his time wisely to keep his 4.0 GPA. This is not an easy task and requires Tabor to balance home life, school, friends, and soccer. He doesn’t mind the early mornings, the late nights studying, and time with friends. Soccer isn’t just a pastime for Tabor; it’s his life. If he isn’t practicing with the high school or TSC, Tabor is often at the soccer fields working on his individual ball-handling skills. Tabor understands that an important part of being an athlete is always to improve himself both physically and mentally. A successful athlete must put in the effort and time to play at the collegiate level. While Tabor has not decided on where he will play next year, one thing is for sure; Tabor will be playing at the collegiate level. Determined is the word that best describes him. He is constantly looking for ways to improve himself and be a leader on the field. Hall agrees that Tabor is determined, and his commitment to the sport has influenced not only himself as a coach but also as a leader for his teammates. Tabor is a player who, when given a challenge, will rise to the challenge and motivates his teammates to do the same, explains Hall.
Tabor hangs out with his friends and family when not busy with soccer. Tahlequah’s soccer season starts on February 16th. Come out and support Tabor and his teammates!
