UNC basketball’s ‘Biscuit Boys’ gain national attention
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (BVM) – The North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball team had an impressive game in front of its home crowd on Tuesday, easily handling the Citadel 100-67. While there were plenty of highlights including a breakout performance from true freshman Tyler Nickel and a double-double by star Armando Bacot, all people could talk about after the game was biscuits.
That’s because the Tar Heels were able to score 100 points in front of the home crowd. In a deal with Southern food chain Bojangles, whenever UNC scores over 100 points at home, fans get two sausage biscuits for $1 the next day and that gets college students excited.

With just 12 seconds left in the game, senior guard Jackson Watkins hit a 3-point shot to push the team to the 100-point threshold. The crowd erupted in response in a moment that quickly went viral.

Typically, the only times that the Tar Heels get to 100 or more are in blowouts against smaller college opponents and thus the team and fans rely on players near the bottom of the roster to do so. These players, affectionately known as the “Biscuit Boys” have earned admiration for their efforts and successes.
This year’s iteration of the “Biscuit Boys” include Watkins, junior guard Creighton Lebo, junior guard Rob Landry, junior forward Beau Maye and senior forward Duwe Farris. While each of these players spent some years on the junior varsity roster, their grit and determination have pushed them into the spotlight for bringing the joy of biscuits to the Tar Heels faithful. In total, the group of five players each played two minutes with Lebo scoring a two-point basket with 32 seconds left before Watkins’ crucial 3-point play.

Despite playing in only two minutes and scoring a total of five points among them in a non-conference December game, the “Biscuit Boys” have left their impact on the UNC fan base for the 2022-23 season. Regardless of how the season goes for the Tar Heels, fans will be able to look fondly upon the “Biscuit Boys” for bringing them joy for one memorable night.
