Brandywine Youth Club football teams win IYFL championships

GARNET VALLEY, Pa. — The Brandywine Youth Club 9U (nine and under) and 11U (11 and under) pad football teams made history this past football season in exciting fashion! Both teams ended up taking home Independent Youth Football League (IYFL) championships and both teams won the Pennsylvania American Youth Football state championship.

The 11U team, coached by Mike Mulholland, finished their season undefeated and un-scored upon. The 11U Bulldogs were led by an outstanding offensive line comprised of Kabree Johnson, Brody Allison, Mike Wolski, Ray Withelder, Lou Pagnoni, Jack McAndrew, Jack Grugan, Lucas Crocamo, Matthew Lim, Chase O’Donoghue, and Holden Logan.

Their stellar defense was led by Dom Barner, Blaise Marcakis, Colin Mayer, Parker Bridge, Quinn Mulholland, Jayden Evans, Johnny Wood, Anthony Meehan, Max Kubatka, Max Chapman, Kolen Poole, Andrew Armideo, and John Mozzani.

“They were one of the hardest working and most complete football teams I have ever been around at any age level,” said Coach Mike Mulholland. “It was a pleasure coaching these exceptional young men, and the future is bright for each and every one of them.”

The 9U Bulldogs, coached by John Port, not only brought home a state championship but went on to beat the Maryland state champions, the Maryland Clovers, under the lights in North Philadelphia 26-7. The 9U team was a true Cinderella story this season and surpassed everyone’s expectations. They came together strong toward the end of the season, battled their way through the playoffs, took home a state championship, and finished as the Big East Regional runner-up, the furthest any BYC team has finished.

The Bulldogs were led on offense by Dante Magliano, JJ Port, Brennan Peters, Jax Pyszyczymuka, Bubba Rowe, Josh Adams, Sawyer Owens, Jase Anglemyer, and Nolan Gallagher.  Defensively, the Dogs were resilient all season with great plays by Evan Orr, Dallas Donmoyer, Brent Mielnik, Landon O’Donnell, Kaiden Johnson, Dennis Borcky, Billy Ferris, Angelo Port and James Simone.

“Our word was `fight’ this season,” said Coach Port. “Our boys did just that. Multiple times they were counted out, but they found ways to fight back. It was impressive to see, and they can always call themselves state champs because of it.”

BYC Football looks to be as strong as ever moving forward. This past season, the 11U team had two JV teams, and they finished with a combined league record of 15-1, while multiple 9U players will be returning for the 9U next season.
