‘Last Chance U’s Malik Muhammad is thriving at Campbellsville
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. (BVM) — For athletes from the “Last Chance U” Netflix documentaries, it is a bit of a mixed bag on what comes next.
Malik Muhammad showed at East Los Angeles College that he possessed the talent needed for some type of basketball career. But could he put everything together to make that happen?
After the 2019-20 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Muhammad pursued an opportunity to join the Central Michigan basketball program. And it looked like it was a good decision, finishing second in the entire conference with 1.4 blocks per game.
Following his one year in Mount Pleasant, Muhammad transferred to Southern Utah where he spent the last season. Unfortunately, he only played 51 minutes over the course of the year. But with one more year left of eligibility, Muhammad once again entered the portal to look for the right place for him.
Now about a third of the way into this season, it looks like he found it.
Muhammad is now at Campbellsville University in the NAIA and is off to a good start. Through 11 games, the center is averaging 10.1 points while shooting 51% from the field.

On Dec. 3, he had his best game of the young season with a 21-point outing and two steals in a 76-72 loss to Bethel. He shot 13 of 17 from the charity stripe.
Despite his fine play, the Tigers have struggled with a 6-9 record and a 1-8 record within the conference.
As Muhammad finishes his final season of collegiate basketball, he is just one of many success stories to come out of “Last Chance U: Basketball” Season 1.
And with a new season of the show recently released, there will be plenty of new faces to keep up with following their time at East Los Angeles College.
