St. John’s Prep football wins MIAA D1 state championship
DANVERS, Mass. — Coming into this season, St. John’s football squad included many young starters and doubt surrounded the team. But the players – using that doubt as fuel – gritted through.
After a slow start to the season, St. John’s began taking out big teams one by one all the way up through the Division One Playoffs. Surprising their naysayers, the team advanced to none other than Gillette Stadium to play the Division One Super Bowl against Springfield Central, which was riding a 20-game winning streak. The weather was far less than ideal – wind and rain affecting St. John’s play, but not enough. Not by a stretch. The final score was 13, St. John’s to 0, Springfield.
This is the third state championship for St. John’s Prep in four seasons.
