Ranking the top 10 Dallas Mavericks players of all time

2. Rolando Blackman (1981-1992)

Blackman is one of the longest-tenured Mavs on this list, and was another fixture of plenty of successful teams in Dallas throughout the ‘80s. Coming in at the same time as Aguirre, the shooting guard averaged over 15 points combined in his first two seasons before breaking out in 1983-84 as he scored a career-best 22.4 points per contest. Over the next three years, Blackman would make three All-Star appearances as he averaged 19.7 points or better. Blackman’s final All-Star season in Dallas came after Aguirre had been traded in 1988-89, with the Kansas State product playing another two seasons after that with the Mavs before joining the Knicks and later playing overseas. Blackman averaged an impressive 19.2 points in his 11 seasons playing in the Lone Star State, shooting nearly 50% from the field. His 16,643 career points in a Mavs uniform were the best in franchise history for a long time until Nowitzki came along, while he is also second to only Dirk in both field goals and free throws made. In addition, Blackman is eighth all time in Mavericks history in rebounds with 3,083, sixth all time in assists with 2,748, and seventh all time in steals with 778.
