Ranking the top 10 Dallas Mavericks players of all time

Honorable mention

James Donaldson (1985-1992)

Donaldson spent a large majority of the back half of his NBA career in Dallas, and provided some good seasons for the Mavs as they found success in the late ‘80s. In 1987-88, the 7-foot-2 center helped lead the Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals while making the only All-Star appearance of his career as he averaged seven points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks.

Josh Howard (2003-2010)

The 2003 ACC Player of the Year became a first-round pick of the Mavericks in 2003. He remained in Dallas for over six seasons, putting together an All-Star campaign in 2006-07. Howard averaged 15.3 points and six rebounds across his Mavs career, and his 6,614 points while in Dallas are the 10th most in franchise history.

Jim Jackson (1992-97)

Jackson bounced around to a lot of teams in his NBA career, but he began with the Mavs after being selected fourth overall in 1992. He made an immediate impact in Dallas as he averaged 16.3 points as a rookie, but the highlight of his time in Dallas was the 1994-95 season in which he scored 25.7 points per game.

Sam Perkins (1984-1990)

After becoming a national champion at North Carolina playing alongside Michael Jordan, Perkins began his eventual 17-year NBA career with the Mavs. He put together a strong six seasons in Dallas, averaging 14.2 points or better in five of them, while grabbing eight rebounds per contest. Perkins is in the top 10 in franchise history for points, rebounds, blocks and steals.

Roy Tarpley (1986-1991, 1994-95)

Had Tarpley stayed out of trouble, he very well could have cracked the top 10. The seventh overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft made the NBA All-Rookie Team in 1987 and was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 1988. He averaged an impressive 12.6 points and 10 rebounds across the six seasons he was in Dallas.
